Carvoeiro itself is a delightful fishing village nestling in a small sandy cove in the Western Algarve, close to the large port town of Portimao, at the mouth of the Arade River.

There is still some fishing here, but the bulk of the town now serves seasonal visitors and has a good selection of bars, restaurants and shops. On the surrounding cliff-tops are residential areas with villas of all standards, including the luxury houses offered by ourselves..

The road east from the town goes towards other relatively secluded beaches such as Vale de Centianes, Praia de Carvalho and Praia de Benagil. A little further on is one of the most photographed beaches in the Algarve, Nossa Senhora de Rocha, or Our Lady of the Rock. The rock is a promontory jutting out to sea surmounted by a small, white fishermens’ church. On either side is a crescent shaped beach making this a not-to-be-missed touring destination.

Inland just a few kilometres is the village of Porches, famous for its hand-painted pottery. There are a number of roadside shops selling such wares along the N125 main road and these are well worth a visit, even if you do not plan to buy.
